Have you heard of the concept known as “Revenge Savings”? Gen Z’ers (born 1997 to 2012) have popularized the “vibe-based budgeting” this year. It’s the idea of stockpiling money to prepare for economic uncertainty, including a cooling job market. It’s about cutting monthly spending by eating out less, avoiding high-priced retail outlets, and showing more self-control when it comes to impulse spending. Baby Boomers (born 1946 to 1964) refer to it as “tightening your belt.” The Silent Generation (born 1928-1945), who lived through the Great Depression, has always been known for saving money. They saw how quickly it could disappear. |
So while “Revenge Savings” is a fresh, catchy phrase, it’s kind of an old concept. Part of “Revenge Savings” is what’s called a “no-buy” challenge, which may seem a bit silly to children of the Depression. They might recall that there were times when “there was nothing to buy anyway,” so not buying comes naturally. But if you do find yourself wanting to rejuvenate your savings for any reason, please let me know. We can work together to develop a solution that fits you. But fair warning! We’re not going to get revenge on anything. We’re just going to adjust the sound principles we already have in place. |
